Newsletter for Home-Start Guildford Families
Autumn Issue 2009

HELLO!

We hope you all enjoyed our summer activities. Since then, Liz and Harriet have joined the team in the office and hope to meet you at the Christmas Party.

Home-Start Guildford is growing, with many new volunteers being trained, which means there are even more families we can offer support and friendship to.

Happy Christmas to you all.

FAMILY GROUP

This term the group, which is specifically for Army families in Pirbright, have been making such things as potato heads and Girl Fawkes (not Guy!), and enjoyed a visiting beautician who has shaped the mums’ eyebrows!

BOCKETTS FARM VISIT

We had a wonderful time at Bocketts Farm in August where the children could pet the animals, watch a pig race, play in the playgrounds, have a picnic.

SUMMER SWIM

Our swimming outing in August was well-attended despite having to change the venue from the Lido to the Spectrum due to chilly, wet weather.

HOME-START
GUILDFORD AGM

We were honoured that the Mayor gave an address at our AGM. She said that she had been a childminder for 25 years before becoming Mayor and that she hopes our scheme would go from strength to strength.

Ann Taylor CBE was announced as our new Chair and this was reported in the Surrey Advertiser on 23 October.
Ruth will continue to be a trustee, and as Vice-Chairman will carry on the challenge of fund-raising.

FREE ACTIVITIES AT SPECTRUM – LAST CHANCE!

If you are looking for something energetic to do on these colder days you can use the soft play area and swim at the Spectrum for free. Just speak to your volunteer or call the office for Active Card.
This offer is only valid until 31 Dec, and subject to availability.

SPONSORED SWIM
FOR THE CHILDREN

Many of our supporters, including volunteer Ann and new senior organiser, Liz (below), participated in our sponsored swim on Saturday at the Spectrum.

More than 60 people “Swam for the Children” and Lorraine and Ruth, below, attended to cheer them on along with many others.

OFFICE CLOSED
25 DEC – 3 JAN

We will be calling in and listening to phone messages daily when the office is closed over Christmas. If you need to speak to someone urgently during this time, please leave a message on our office answerphone and we will get back to you.
